This has been a year where radio delivered when it was needed the most.

Through all the trials and tribulations 2020 has thrown at us so far, radio has remained an ever constant presence in our lives.

Informing us of all the important developments right as they happened, letting us escape from it all when we needed too - it's helped us through this together.

Which is why this year's IMRO Radio Awards will hold extra significance for the industry as a whole.

And we're delighted to announce that iRadio will have seven finalists represented.

iRadio's 'magnificent seven' nominees are as follows:

Mark McCabe - iGnite - Specialist Music Show

The Lift with Dave & Fionnuala - Éirevision - Music Special/ Music Event

iGoHome - Digital and Social Innovation

Kayte O'Malley - Best Radio DJ

Fionnuala Corbett - News Broadcaster of the Year

Brendan Bracken - Best newcomer

Ciáran Bennett - Best newcomer

While it wont live up to the glitz and glamour of years gone by, the socially distanced awards will be a thoroughly deserved acknowledgement to those who helped push the industry through the pandemic.

Commenting on the nominations, iRadio CEO Mark Cunning said Irish radio has been more important than ever this year:

"2020 has been an incredibly difficult year for all of us, but it's also been a year where radio has shone bright.

''Irish Radio's ability to connect with listeners and the trust those listeners have in the medium of radio has been more important than ever before as we all adjust to this new normal together. I'm thrilled to see iRadio picking up seven nominations this year.

''So much work goes on behind the scenes to create our output for iRadio.

''I'm delighted our peers within the Irish radio industry have given the given the nod to so many of our hard-working presenters and producers.

''Well done to all our nominees."
