All the patients have tested negative for Covid-19.

A mysterious illness has put more than 200 in hospital in India.

Patients are suffering from symptoms including nausea, anxiety, seizures, and loss of consciousness - but they've all tested negative for Covid-19.

One person suffering the unidentified illness has died, however CNN reports they suffered a cardiac arrest unrelated to the condition

The first cases were detected on Saturday evening in the ancient city of Eluru, in the state of Andhra Pradesh.

Dolla Joshi Roy, the district surveillance officer of Eluru's West Godavari District said:

"All patients have tested negative for Covid-19," adding that about 180 patients have now been discharged, while the rest are "stable."

Authorities are now testing water samples in Eluru for contamination, after all the patients were found to receive their water from a common source. Samples have been collected from 57,863 households and sent to a forensic laboratory.
"The cause is still unknown but still we are doing all kinds of testing, including testing food and milk," said Roy.
