Failte Ireland has issued guidelines to the tourism and hospitality sector.
Minibars, buffet breakfasts, steam rooms and saunas will not feature in the reopening of hotels later this month.
Failte Ireland has issued guidelines to all corners of the tourism and hospitality sector on how to reopen post-lockdown. The tourism and hospitality sector reopens for business on June 29th, when we'll be encouraged to take a 'staycation' to kickstart the industry.
However, CEO of Fáilte Ireland, Paul Kelly, is concerned some people will still be reluctant to take a break saying that:
"Some older people who are less comfortable abt travelling, people who are worried about their financial status.. Those two things are holding back some domestic tourism."
Post-lockdown, hotels can allow guests to use their swimming pool but it must be pressure washed and disinfected every night. Facilities like minibars, buffet breakfasts, steam rooms and saunas are also being advised against.
Despite this, CEO of the Irish Hotel Federation Tim Fenn is hopeful. He said that they've noticed a spike in website numbers:
"We're seeing a big increase in traffic on the websites. The bookings are beginning to take off and people recognise that maybe there's a different world out there now."
"International travel isn't as attractive. There is a great option in the domestic hotel and guesthouse market".
The 2-metre guideline is under review after Failte Ireland research found that reducing it to 1 metre would allow more businesses to reopen and save 80,000 jobs.
