No animal should ever have to go through this.
A family in County Cork has made an emotional appeal to save their dog, Calli.
Calli was found by West Cork Animal Welfare Rescue a few years ago. When rescued, the staffie was in a terrible state and had recently had puppies. She was very nervous and was badly scarred.
She went to live with her current owner, Sharon Dunne, where she grew in confidence and began to trust people and other dogs again.
However, just last week Calli suffered a setback.
Sharon noticed that Calli was struggling with her legs and was finding it near impossible to stand or walk. She eventually lost the use of her hind legs and is now undergoing tests and treatments to try get to the root of the problem.
Her family have now made an emotional plea to help save their beloved pet. On their GoFundMe page, Calli's owner Sharon said that the treatments come at a high price, something the family need help with.
Sharon wrote on the page:
"We are not about to give up on Calli."
"She is the toughest little girl we have ever met and she will never give up, so we won't either. The sooner Calli receives surgery, the better her chance of ever walking again."
The family is looking to raise €4,000 on their GoFundMe page. That money will hopefully cover Calli's vet and surgery bills and any extra cash raised will be donated to the West Cork Animal Welfare Rescue.
