We won’t find out today what countries are on the green list of safe travel.
The announcement of the green list of countries it's safe to travel to has been delayed due to the ongoing EU summit in Brussels.
The Cabinet had been due to meet today to consider the latest advice from the public health experts on what countries can be included on the Green list.
However, with Taoiseach Micheál Martin currently attending negotiations over a coronavirus economic recovery fund in Brussels, the meeting has been delayed with no word at this time when it will now take place.
When it is announced, America, the UK, Spain and Portugal aren’t expected to be on the list due to increased cases.
Speaking last week on the Pat Kenny Show on Newstalk, Minister for Foreign Affairs Simon Coveney said it was not a political decision but one based on numbers and advice.
"I think it's very unlikely our closest neighbour either will be under that threshold that we set," he said.
"That's really unfortunate, because the two countries we would like to be opening up to in terms of international travel are the UK and US, given the integration between our economy and those two countries."
Once it is published, the green list will mean people that travel to those countries for essential reasons will not have to self-isolate for 14 days upon return.
