Greece is the latest country to offer incentives for tourists to visit there this summer.

The European hotspot is temporarily cutting down on transportation taxes to make travel to and within the country cheaper.

Their Prime Minister announced last month that the tax - which is normally applied to flights into the country - would be slashed almost in half, from 24% to 13%. According to INSIDER, the country originally planned to open its doors to foreign tourism on July 1st but now that date has been pushed forward to June 15th.

At the moment, international flights are flying into Greece via Athens only. Mandatory quarantine and testing is enforced for all arrivals and non-essential travel and tourism is not being encouraged up until June 14th.

The country plans to open up to tourists from June 15th. From then, they'll allow non-essential travel and tourism into Greece but travellers from a 'high-risk' country will be tested for Covid-19 on arrival. At the moment, the list from the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) does not include Irish people.

Visitors from countries on that list, which includes the UK and Unites States, must spend their first night in Greece in a designated hotel to wait for their results.

Depending on the outcome, tourists will either have to self-isolate for a week or quarantine under supervision for two weeks.

Meanwhile, travellers from areas not on that list (that includes Irish ones) will be subject to random testing after June 15th. INSIDER report that these regulations will more than likely be in place until July 1st when international flights to all of Greece's airports are expected to be allowed once more.

It is important to note that at the time of writing, the Department of Foreign Affairs here in Ireland has advised against all non-essential travel overseas until further notice. You can find out more about travel restrictions over on their website.
