The Government says it fully intends for schools to reopen on January 11th.
There were suggestions the reopening of schools will be further delayed due to the escalating Covid case numbers.
In a statement today, the Department of Education says it believes schools are a safe place to be.
A spokesperson for the department says all members of the school community should use the extended break until January 11th to minimise their contacts before returning to school.
Meanwhile his afternoon, opposition parties will meet with the Minister for Education Norma Foley.
