There are calls for Gardaí to be given the power to immediately shut down a business that's ignoring public health guidelines.

It's after hundreds of people gathered outside pubs in Dublin City Centre to drink on Saturday night. Videos and pictures circulated on social media over the weekend of hundreds of people drinking on Dame Lane in the capital.

Take-away pints and alcohol were bought from nearby shops were consumed, while a DJ reportedly played on the street.

Social distancing did not feature in the videos on social media which have gone viral.

Gardaí are carrying out checks in pubs and restaurants and advising owners if they're not compliant with restrictions. However, they don't have the power to close the premises if they're posing a risk to public health.

The Restaurants Association is now calling on the Government to give them that power.
