All teachers and secondary students should wear face coverings when schools return in September, recommends the Department of Education.
The coverings should be similar to those worn in shops or on public transport, when a physical distance of 2 metres cannot be maintained.
Minister for Education Norma Foley issued updated guidelines this evening, she says the new rule will apply in cases where the 2 metre social distancing rule cannot be adhered to.
