A 47% increase from last week.
221 people are being treated for Covid-19 in Irish hospitals this morning, the highest figure since May.
It's also a 47 percent increase compared with this day last week.
The figures come as debate continues over the possibility of using a circuit breaker to curb the spread of the disease, which is a short, hard lockdown.
Infectious diseases expert, Paddy Mallon, says it has to be done correctly or it wouldn’t work.
''We need to have a very open and frank discussion that if we do undergo a short sharp, hard lock down, about what it is we do when we come out the other side'', he said.
''Because really what we don't want to do is undergo hardship like that only to end up back where we are at the minute in another few months time''.
Last night in the Republic, a further 814 cases of the virus were confirmed, along with two deaths.
Of the new cases, 226 in Dublin, 77 in Cork, 64 in Galway, 56 in Donegal, 48 in Meath and the remaining 343 cases are spread across all remaining counties.
