Cabinet Ministers are meeting again this morning to approve a new series of fines for breaching COVID-19 restrictions.
They will be part of new enforcement measures around level five restrictions, which will be implemented from midnight on Wednesday, and will apply to breaching the 5km travel restrictions from your home - with some exemptions which you can find here.
The graduated penalties are also expected to apply to things like not wearing a facemask in shops.
The legislation is to be given priority and may come before the Dáil as early as this week.
Taoiseach Micheál Martin confirmed the news last night as an added method of enforcement.
''Legislation will come before the cabinet in relation to the amendment of the health act which will bring in fines, and there will be more penal clauses introduced in terms of enforcing this'', he said.
The decision to move to Level 5 restrictions came as the number of Covid-19 cases in Ireland exceeded 50,000.
An additional 1,031 new cases of the virus were confirmed yesterday evening, bringing the total to 50,993.
No further deaths were announced so the death toll remains at 1,852.
More than 12,500 cases, around a quarter of the total number, have been notified over the last 14 days alone.
