The research was done by the Australian Centre for Disease Prevention.
Covid-19 can remain infectious for up to 28 days on things like banknotes, phone screens and door handles.
Scientists at the Australian Centre for Disease Prevention found that the virus can survive for 4 weeks on smooth surfaces such as glass found on touch-screen devices at room temperature.
That compares to the flu which can survive on surfaces for 17 days.
Experiments also found that survival time declines as the temperature increases, meaning it may be harder to control as the weather gets colder.
Here in Ireland, there's been a 38% increase in the 14-day incidence rate of Covid-19. New figures show the national total now stands at 158.5 per 100,000 of the population.
