The country's Covid-19 testing capacity has increased to 140,000 a week, but only 87,000 were carried out over the past seven days.

The positivity rate of the tests over the past week has decreased further to 4.7%. That's below the 5% benchmark, which the World Health Organisation says shows the spread of the disease is out of control.

Department of Health data shows that just 87,000 tests were carried out in the past seven days.

Meanwhile, the number of people in hospital with the virus has increased again today to 315. However, the numbers have remained relatively stable over the past two weeks.

41 people with Covid-19 are currently in ICU. That number has fallen for the second day in a row, the first time it's happened since mid-October.

The national 14-day incidence rate has continued to decrease and has seen a fall of 25% since its peak on October 25th.

Leitrim still has a rate of less than 100 - the lowest in the country.
