This afternoon the jury heard from a friend of the deceased who described how everything happened so fast on the day and everyone was fighting.
He heard a scream, shouts of ‘knife’ and saw Azzam slip and being stabbed.
He described Azzam as being on the ground and saw the accused carrying out stabbing motions.
Azzam’s friend said he went to him and tried to stop the bleeding – he was telling him to stay with him as he was bleeding out.
He admits he told gardai when they arrived that three men had attacked Azzam, which wasn’t true, as he was in fear for his life.
He said when he made his statement later he wanted to tell the truth because his friend was after dying.
