A man his early 20s has been hospitalised after acid was thrown at his face in Limerick.

It's alleged to have happened on Saturday night at house in Garryowen. The man presented himself to University Hospital Limerick for treatment.

Gardaí say no arrests have yet been made and the investigation is ongoing.

Fianna Fáil TD for Limerick City, Willie O'Dea, says it was a horrific assault:

"The whole situation culminated with somebody throwing acid in his face and it literally disfigured him, which was an appalling and monstrous thing."

"The level of violence and the level and aggression between human beings seems to be on the increase all the time but that was a particularly horrendous attack."
