Met Eireann says today could be the hottest day of the year, with the best of the weather in the east of the country.
However, the forecast is set to take a turn this evening, with a nationwide yellow thunderstorm warning taking effect from 4pm. Here's how the weather forecast is shaping up for the next couple of days:
Thursday 25th June
It'll be very warm and humid today, with hazy sunshine. Expect scattered heavy, thundery showers later this afternoon and evening, with a risk of hail and spot flooding.
Tonight will also be very mild and humid, with further scattered heavy and thundery downpours and with a continuing risk of hail and spot flooding. The risk of thunderstorms is greatest in Ulster and Connacht, but becoming mostly dry elsewhere by the morning. Lows throughout the night of 11 degrees.
Friday 26th June
Friday will start out dry with sunny spells, but there'll still be some scattered showers. The showers will be mainly in the northwest and north, with some possibly heavy and thundery. More persistent rain will develop in the southwest in the early afternoon, extending gradually northeastwards across the country later in the afternoon and evening. It'll be quite warm and humid in Ulster and Leinster, with maximum temperatures of 24 degrees but cooler and fresher in most of Connacht and Munster. Friday night's forecast suggests that showery rain will continue in most areas with some heavy and possibly thundery bursts. Lowest overnight temperatures of 11 degrees.
Saturday 27th June
There'll be frequent showers on Saturday with some turning heavy especially in parts of the north and northeast. Winds will be mostly moderate but increasing fresh to strong at times along southern coasts. Top temperatures of 17 degrees but more showers overnight.
Sunday 28th June
Sunday will see further showers although less frequent than Saturday with the best of the dry and bright weather in the south and east of the country. Top temperatures of 18 degrees with a moderate to fresh and gusty winds, strongest along west and northwest coasts. It'll be mostly dry overnight but winds will continue strong and gusty along the west and northwest coasts.
