Because yes, there were a few.

Let's be honest - 2020 has been a bit crappy. However, amid the doom and the gloom, there were a few moments that made us smile and laugh and forget the madness.

Here are 20 good things that happened in 2020:

1. Adam on the Toy Show

Need we say any more? This little bundle of joy put everything into perspective when he lit up our TV screens on the Late Late Toy Show with his big dreams of space and his socially-distant 'hug'.

2. Jedward DMing everyone

Jedward took it upon themselves to spend their days shooting random Irish people a DM on Twitter and honestly,it was the distraction we all needed.

3. Daniel O'Donnell's tech problems

Ok, the Zoom quizzes aren't exactly a highlight of 2020. However, Daniel and Majella O'Donnell's mare trying to instigate a live performance gave us a good chuckle.

4. Galway Paddleboarders story

In a year where good news stories were few and far between, this one reminded us that miracles do happen and that there are some brilliant, heroic people in this little island.

5. Normal People

Let's face it - Connell and Marianne were the perfect distraction during The First Lockdown. Reliving the awkward teenage school days, the Debs and those first few weeks of college. We owe a lot to Paul Mescal, Daisy Edgar-Jones and crew.

8. Staycations

Yes, we had to cancel our sunny trip to Spain or our weekend away to Prague. However, 2020 was the summer that we rediscovered what Ireland really had to offer. From Dingle to Donegal, our Insta feeds were filled with pretty pictures from this little island we call home.

9. 5k challenge

Despite some people claiming they did 5k in 3 minutes flat, the challenge was a great fundraising initiative at a time when charities were really struggling.

10. A lobster got a letter from Michael D

Charlie the Lobster from Achill Island got a thank you letter from Michael D Higgins. Yup. The actual President of Ireland.

11. Don Conroy and his YouTube channel

The legend himself launched his own YouTube channel to show the nation how to do a great owl. What a national treasure.

12. News bloopers while WFH

I mean, where do we even start here? From Zoom malfunctions to kids storming into news interviews demanding biscuits, we salute the various WFH bloopers that happened during 2020.

13. Tipp and Caaaavan defy the odds

After the uncertainty of not knowing whether or not the Championship would go ahead or not, we're delighted it did. And it did not disappoint. The underdog success stories of Tipp and Cavan really injected the feel-good factor into 2020.

14. A baby chef caused absolute mayhem

This little chef cooking with his granny caused an absolute pandemonium. But it's funny and will certainly make you giggle.

15. TikTok

2020 - the year Irish people got to grasps with TikTok. The app opened up a new stream of content creators who light up our For You page day in, day out.

Frog TikTok took off this summer as Hannah McSorley went viral on the app for raising 37,000 tadpoles out in her back garden.

This was a late entry into our list but a worthy one all the same. Just watch this video - it's sure to make you smile.
