The Irish band are suing James Arthur for alleged copyright infringement.

According to TMZ, The Script have filed a lawsuit claiming the X Factor winner ripped off their song, The Man Who Can't Be Moved.

The showbiz site says Danny O’Donoghue and Mark Sheehan, as well as co-writers Andrew Frampton and Stephen Kipnave, allege that James' track Say You Won't Let Go has almost identical beats and melodies to The Man Who Can't Be Moved.

The Man Who Can't Be Moved appeared on The Script's 2008 debut album, while Say You Won't Let Go was a comeback hit for James in 2016.

The lawsuit says that Say You Won't Let Go has generated $20m in revenue and statutory damages are being sought.

The Script's lawyers claim that James approached the band with a view to collaborating in 2014 but was turned down.

James has denied he copied The Man Who Can't Be Moved.
