A cat welfare organisation is calling for a ban of the breeding of Scottish Folds - a breed that has garnered popularity among A-list celebrities such as Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift.

Their tiny folded ears and big doe eyes have made the creatures a fan favourite.

But according to the charity Cats Protection, these distinctive traits are down to genetic disorders - and the breeding of the species should be outlawed out of concern for their health.

Pop sensation Swift regularly posts pictures of her Scottish folds - Meredith Grey and Olivia Benson - to Instagram, for her 230 million followers to see.

The charity has called on governments to regulate cat breeding, ban the commercial breeding of certain extreme breeds such as the Scottish Fold and to work with animal welfare organisations
to raise public awareness of the welfare and behavioral issues of certain extreme breeds and wildcat hybrids.
