ITV have announced the measures for the new series

Love Island contestants will have to pause their social media activity for the duration of the series this year.

ITV has announced a new range of duty-of-care measures for the upcoming series.

Typically, friends or family members take over the islanders' accounts and post on their behalf while they're in the villa, but that's not what will be happening for the upcoming winter season.

The measures will aim to protect the contestants and their families from the adverse effects of social media.

The islanders accounts will be dormant so that nothing can be published during the filming period.

Also, ahead of entering the villa, contestants will receive guidance and training around mutually respectful behaviour in relationships.

“The bold decision to pause Islanders’ social media activity during the new series is testament to ITV’s serious intent, especially as this input provides both a benefit to the appeal of the programme and a potential source of mental health problems,” said Dr Matthew Gould, a Psychologist who consults on the Lifted Entertainment show.
