Another talent emerging from The Rebel County!
This week's First Play on iRadio is the debut release from Cork singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist LYRA.
This dark electro-pop single, Falling, is the latest treat from one of The Rebel County's most exciting new artists.
Her debut EP ‘W.I.L.D’ has already garnered over a million streams on Spotify and her previous single ‘Emerald’ peaked at Number 9 on the iTunes chart in Ireland.
That EP led to sold out shows in Ireland and London, festival dates at The Great Escape, Music Cork, Latitude and Electric Picnic and being featured on the 30th anniversary rework of U2’s The Joshua Tree - 'New Roots’ alongside Kodaline, Gavin James, U2 and Imelda May - a record which went to number 1 in Ireland.
LYRA has spent the past year honing her sound and writing. She recently supported Dermot Kennedy on tour and played with James Bay at the Live At The Marquee in Cork.
“’Falling’ is about something I think most of us girls have experienced in life", says LYRA.
"You know these guys who want to have their cake and eat it? It’s about one of them! Falling for a guy, who it seems to be going swimmingly with only to find out he’s been seeing other girls on the side…"
"I was quite naive and thought I could win him over and that once I’d done that - we’d be onto something great together. How fecking wrong was I?!"
"I started writing this song at home in my PJ’s when I’d given up crying and decided I wanted to do something that had a bit of a sexy feel to it, something that made me feel empowered in this shit situation I’d found myself in."
"I ended up going through quite a lot with this guy…I have a lot to say about it - he better watch out!”
You can catch Falling every morning this week on iWork with Michaela Hayes at around 10.35am, and again on IRL with Sharron Lynskey just after 7.30pm.
