Well we made it.

After the Winter equivalent of an annoying house guest who can’t take the hint to leave, we’re starting to emerge victorious from the cold.

So, as those sweet first rays of Summer start to bask down upon us, it’s time we started thinking sun. Started thinking fun. And started thinking party-time.

Because Summer is almost here!

Now, when you imagine a sun-soaked, party paradise what comes to mind...? That’d have to be Ibiza. The party capital of Europe.

Unfortunately we can’t all just jet off to Ibiza any old time we want... you know, responsibilities and all that...

A weekend somewhere closer to home is a little more feasible.

That’s why we’re out to crown the Ibiza of Ireland!

To do this each County will be judged by Three-key categories that make Ibiza so popular: Weather, party scene and features.

Now we aren’t interested in the usual offenders, your big  tourist Counties...

So we’ve narrowed our pool down to Fifteen: Donegal, Sligo, Galway, Mayo, Laois, Kildare,

Cavan, Leitrim, Longford, Roscommon, Meath, Westmeath, Offaly, Monaghan and Louth.

So let’s do this thing!

Which County will be claim the title and become... Ibiza of Ireland!

Weather:

Well... it’s kind of hard to pick a winner in this category... Weather in Ireland is kind of a one size fits all equation. While it may vary a little, at the end of the day we’re all tared and feathered with the same brush. So all of our contenders survive this round.

Party scene:

Ibiza often sees big groups of friends travelling together for a week of fun. So big points for any County that’s popular for Hen and Stag party’s in this category. Mayo, Galway, Donegal, Louth and Leitrim all get a thumbs up there. While Kildare and Sligo also boast killer night-life scenes.

Features:

Unfortunately for landlocked Counties, we’re searching for Ireland’s answer to Ibiza... So that means beach frontage is a necessity. It’s harsh, but we have to stay authentic!

So that’s a sad goodbye to Westmeath, Offaly, Roscommon, Kildare, Monaghan, Longford and Cavan. Well played lads, well played.

Which means we’re left with... Donegal, Sligo, Galway, Mayo, Leitrim, Louth, Laois and Meath...

And the winner is... County Leitrim!

It may be the smallest County by population, but it when it gets rocking, you could be forgiven for thinking you were smack bang in the middle of Cafe Mambo.

It’s got beach frontage (albeit about a 4- kilometre’s long...but what a 4-kilometre’s it is!).

Carrick-on-Shannon is an absolute haven for stags and hens nights, as well as anyone looking for a night of craic.

Plus they never win anything... so they can have this one.

County Leitrim... now (un)officially known as, the Ibiza of Ireland!
