Drug surrender bins will be rolled out at more festivals this summer by the HSE.

It was trialled at Electric Picnic last September – with people able to give up drugs so they could be tested to warn others.

The Health Service says last year’s campaign was a success and allowed them to highlight dangerous substances in festival settings.

Part of the HSE’s new campaign is saying ‘if you go – go slow’.

Speaking to the Irish Times, Prof Eamon Keenan, the HSE’s national lead in addiction services said:

“As well as high-strength drugs, as seen recently in the UK, we are currently concerned about the possibility of new psychoactive substances being mis-sold as MDMA pills or crystal, cocaine and cannabis.”
