The limit had been set to increase to 100 guests.
Couples preparing to get married next month say they're frustrated at the lack of certainty over the number of guests who can attend their reception.
Numbers are currently capped at 50, but had been due to increase to 100 in August.
So hang on.... indoor dining opens next week but weddings can't increase numbers even though the majority of people at weddings in Aug are likely to be at least one jab in... yeah... that makes perfect sense #weddings #Ireland

However, speaking yesterday the Tanaiste said that may not happen.
"Don’t assume that they will change. So, I’d say to anyone who’s planning a wedding in August, operate on the basis that it will be 50," he said.
Micheál Martin said that a final decision on wedding guest numbers would be made next week.
Devastating. . This is a disgrace. So frustrating that they haven’t even discussed this earlier and come to a decision to let us know earlier . Shame ! The fact that ‘indoor dining’ is going ahead next week and that there is going to wedding limits won’t! Terrible news. So sad

Following criticism over the short notice, the Taoiseach defended the government's decision saying;
“We will be giving notice, I think we’ve already extended it to 50 but we’ll be doing that, we will be making a decision on those and other issue’s next week,” he said.
