Two Fianna Fail TDs are calling for the National Public Health Emergency Team to take more of a backseat.
NPHET has been to the forefront of advising and making many crucial decisions during the Covid 19 pandemic.
But Dublin North West TD Paul McAuliffe believes NPHET should lose some of its powers.
Importantly, I was not 'slagging' NPHET. Nor calling for them to be disbanded. There was a time for prescriptive, regulations but once large numbers are vaccinated we need to decommission those tools used earlier in the pandemic. Overly complex rules will see less adherence

Labour's Aodhan O'Riordan was quick to respond
Dear FF backbenchers:
Last time you slagged off NPHET in December we had more COVID cases and deaths in January 2021 than the whole of 2020.
Please cop on.
