The government will publish a road map detailing how restrictions will be eased this evening.

The National Public Health Emergency Team is expected to recommend extending the current lock down for a further two weeks today.

The government will publish a road map detailing how restrictions will eventually be phased out this evening.

The plan is set to start in mid-May and will outline how business can reopen and when people can expect to see their loved ones.

Professor in Infectious Diseases at the Mater, Jack Lambert, says the issue of community transmission has not been properly tackled.

''People are social distancing - but people also turn around in the middle of grocery store and say 'oops I have to turn round I forgot my tomatoes' - and the next thing you know they're in your face, and they don't have a mask'', he said.

He added that there aren't appropriate hand washing facilitates in shops and centres around the country, and that those issues need to be addressed before restrictions end.
