Nursing Homes Ireland Chief Executive says it's 'unforgivable'.
Nursing Homes Ireland says there was a blind spot when it came to testing nursing home residents at the start of the coronavirus pandemic.
The group is among a number of representatives that will appear before a special Covid-19 committee this morning.
Its chief executive, Tadgh Daly, says it’s unforgivable that patients were transferred from acute hospitals to nursing homes without a Covid test.
''One of the most significant issues of all for us was the fact that large numbers of people were transferred from the acute hospitals, out into nursing homes without being tested'', he said.
''Clearly, the health service was getting the ICU system ready for that surge, and that was the right thing to do.
''But there was a blind spot if you like, in that those residents should've been tested before being discharged from those hospitals''.
