They will be relaxed on a gradual basis.

Northern Ireland is likely to relax its restrictions on a phased basis from next week.

A similar lockdown is in place in the six counties as in the Republic, with the rules set by the Stormont Assembly.

The executive will meet on Monday to discuss reducing them on a gradual basis.

But the North's Communities Minister, Deirdre Harney, says it must be done carefully.

''What we don't want is a second spike or those figures starting to increase again, because that will actually put the economy and communities in a worse position'', she said.

''And we obviously need to manage the introduction and the relaxation of regulations so in executive we have given commitment that we will look at that on the week beginning the 4th (of May), and will be very much led by medical and scientific advice''.
