A third of the world's total cases are in the US.

More people have now died in the US of Covid-19 than died during the Vietnam war.

Figures from John Hopkins University suggest that the number of confirmed US coronavirus cases has passed one million which is a third of the global total.

Overall more than 58,000 people have died from the virus in the Sates, with nearly 18,000 in New York City alone.

Donald Trump has defended the high number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in the United States, claiming that it is due to the amount of testing being done.

On Wednesday morning, Trump tweeted: "The only reason the U.S. has reported one million cases of CoronaVirus is that our Testing is sooo (sic) much better than any other country in the World. Other countries are way behind us in Testing, and therefore show far fewer cases!"
