''Our energy requirements have gone to only around 1,500 per day.''

Adults should only be eating around 1,500 calories a day during isolation, according to weight loss expert Dr Eva Orsmund.

Generally, the recommended daily calorie intake is 2,000 calories a day for women and 2,500 for men, according to the NHS.

Dr Orsmund explained that people are leading more sedentary lives at the moment, meaning that we don't require the usual amount of calories. However, many people in isolation are comfort eating and finding it hard to exercise.

She says the type of food we're eating while in isolation is the most important:

''Our energy requirements have gone to only around 1,500 per day'', she said.

''And on top of that we are eating more, we are nearer to the fridge and comfort eating.

''So really it's important that we start understanding hat type of food we eat is the most important factor''.
