Viagra is one of the drugs made at a Pfizer factory in Cork, but locals claim they don’t have to take the little blue pill to feel its effects.

People living in Ringaskiddy say the fumes from the pharmaceutical plant have been putting a spring in their step for almost 20 years.

The Sunday Times visited the village as Viagra is about to be made available over the counter in the UK.

Journalist Matthew Campbell found locals there claiming to have an astonishing sex life.

“One whiff and you’re stiff,” said Debbie O’Grady, who works in the Ferry Boat Inn.

Her mother Sadie added: “We’ve been getting the love fumes for years now for free. It’s amazing the number of people who come to this village, perhaps out of curiosity, and then never leave.”

Fiona Toomey, who once worked as a cleaner in the factory, said: “Even the dogs here have been known to walk around in a state of sexual excitement.”

However, a spokesperson for Pfizer said “Viagra in the air” is nothing more than an “amusing” myth.

“Our manufacturing processes have always been highly sophisticated as well as highly regulated,” she added.
