People Before Profit will discuss women’s rights and gender equality today.

The party is holding a national conference, calling for reproductive rights, following the legislation to repeal the 8th.

There are calls for another referendum on abortion – to take reproductive rights out of the constitution and into healthcare.

Concerns were raised at the conference that people are still traveling to the UK for access to abortion services.

LGBTQ and abortion rights campaigner, Ailbhe Smyth says there’s still a fight ahead.

“There is no sensible, rational, logical reason for legislating for abortion. Abortion should quite simply along with other reproductive healthcare issues…it should be part and parcel of our overall health provisions in this country.”
