A coffee shop owner has implemented a dress code for customers after two turned up in their nightwear.

Cafe owner Ciara Burke was shocked to see two women wearing fleece pyjamas and slippers when they arrived for breakfast at Sage & Stone in Duleek in Co. Meath.

Burke said she had just dropped the kids off to school when she walked into her busy cafe to see her “lovely staff all suited and booted in their clean uniforms” serving two women about to head off on holidays to New York in their pyjamas.

The owner says that although the ladies did not meet the dress code requirements they were “very pleasant”, however she has now banned sleepwear from her cafe and gift shop as “there is a time and place for everything”.

Sage & Stone posted about the incident on Facebook saying “

We welcome hard working people who come in their work clothes as long as they are clean. However, we draw a line with people who come to our café for breakfast in their pajamas”.

The post attracted over 400 comments with people sharing their thoughts beneath such as “You shouldn’t even have to write this . Feck sake. Pyjamas are not for dining out it. How much effort does it take to stick on a pair of leggings and a t-shirt or some proper clothes. Pure laziness and no pride in yourself if you go out to eat in pjs”, but that comment has since been deleted.
