Bridget Jones’s Diary is the best rom-com to mend a broken heart.

The 2001 British film starring Renee Zellweger was closely followed by Legally Blonde and The Holiday.

Research of 2,000 adults by Costa also found The Wedding Singer and Bridesmaids can provide comfort after a breakup.

Also in the top 10 were Crazy Stupid Love and How to Lose a Guy in 10 days.

The Mirror reports 62% of people surveyed say rom-coms help with the healing process by providing escapism and getting you laughing again.

Among the people surveyed 28% say they have been involved in a rom-com-like romance and 1 in 10 these films have changed their expectations on relationships.

Julia Foye, spokesperson for Costa, which commissioned the research, says: “Clearly, watching rom-coms where the main characters move on can help people heal.

“Our research has shown that these films can have a real positive impact and not only be relatable but put a smile on faces too.”
