The news reader also explained why she did it
We’ve all had mishaps at work but luckily for most of us they’re not broadcast on the telly.
One news reader on the BBC left viewers stunned when she gave the middle finger to the screen at the beginning of her bulletin.

So, it goes to show news presenters aren’t always so serious but Maryam Moshiri was ever the professional and continued with the headlines as usual.
She has since issued an apology on X and explained what actually happened:
Hey everyone , yesterday just before the top of the hour I was joking around a bit with the team in the gallery.
I was pretending to count down as the director was counting me down from 10-0.. including the fingers to show the number. So from 10 fingers held up to one.

She’s certainly not the first newsreader to be caught thinking they weren’t live and definitely won’t be the last.
