Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team were called to Scafell Pike to rescue a St Bernard dog on Friday.

16 volunteers spent nearly 5 hours rescuing Daisy.

According to the team, she was showing signs of pain in her rear legs before collapsing and refusing to move.

After consulting with a vet, the team began their rescue operation to carry the 55kg dog back down the mountain.

They administered pain relief before loading the dog onto an adapted stretcher and evacuating her to safety.

Ironically, St Bernard dogs were originally bred to help with rescues in the Alps.

A spokesman said "She (Daisy) apparently feels a bit guilty and slightly embarrassed about letting down the image of her cousins bouncing across the Alpine snows"
