Nearly 3-thousand people died in the attacks on the 11th of September 2001

Candlelit vigils, moments of silence and readings are taking place in America today to remember those lost during the 9-11 attacks.

Hijackers took control of four flights that day in a coordinated campaign with two flying directly into the World Trade Centre towers, taking them down.

Another plane crashed into the Pentagon and a fourth crash landed into a field after passengers fought back against their captors.

Current New York Mayor Eric Adams was a police officer at the time, he says he went straight to work the moment he heard about the attack.

“I knew it was time for me to make my way to my command at the time…as I walked across the bridge I started to see people who were just terrified.”

President Joe Biden plans to speak and lay a wreath at the Pentagon.

While first lady Jill Biden is scheduled to speak in Shanksville in Pennsylvania.
